- So I'm nominating Zombieland because it was exactly the movie I wanted it to be, but there are a number of movies I have yet to see that might qualify: The Hurt Locker, Big Fan, Moon, Where the Wild Things Are, Precious, Avatar, The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus - pierce
- I was trying to decide between zombieland and watchmen. I found them both equally entertaining. ~a (user • talk • contribs) 14:25, 15 December 2009 (UTC)
- There are also some possible contenders just coming out, or just out. Invictus is probably the only one with a legitimate shot, but also Sherlock Holmes--though it looks like a 'so bad it's good' kind of movie. Xpovos 13:42, 15 December 2009 (UTC)
- Do we get to vote? My vote is for Watchmen hands down, I loved it so much I saw in theaters twice, and then read the comic book twice. I enjoyed it more than anyone else I know, including all of my friends who had already read the comics before seeing the movie... Aaron 18:19, 15 December 2009 (UTC)
- Wow, you certainly enjoyed it more than me. I read the comic in college and was excited by the prospect of a movie, but I felt in the end that it was too literal in the transfer. A transliteration rather than a translation. And the few deviations were generally worse, such as the hyper violence. But I still enjoyed the movie, as the source material was excellent, and it stood well on it's own. I just end up comparing it to the original. It was probably the best movie I saw in theaters in 2009, though. Xpovos 18:33, 15 December 2009 (UTC)
- I disagree; I thought some of the deviations helped the movie - they wrapped up a pretty big plot hole which was in the original comic, I can't remember what that hole was but maybe I'll remember it later today Aaron 20:33, 15 December 2009 (UTC)
- I remember the plot hole but it has a huge spoiler so I'll e-mail it to you.Aaron 20:48, 15 December 2009 (UTC)
- After discussion with Aaron, I have to concur the movie did a better job with the plot, streamlining it and removing some causes for confusion. We still agreed that certain aspects were not as good as the original graphic novel/comic, but both agree it's a damn fine movie. Xpovos 17:42, 16 December 2009 (UTC)
- Watchmen. No contest, barring something unbelievable when I finally get around to seeing Ninja Assassin. - mig. Miguel 20:29, 15 December 2009 (UTC)
- movies i liked so far: The Hurt Locker, Coraline, 500 Days of Summer, The Proposal, Gran Torino (technically 2008 but didn't wide release until jan2009). movies that i haven't seen yet: the brothers bloom, precious, the cove, drag me to hell, lymelife, whip it!, world's greatest dad. - Aba
- Ok do you have a nomination? ~a (user • talk • contribs) 21:48, 15 December 2009 (UTC)
- I still want to see gran torino!! the previews made it look OK but after hearing more about the plot, it sounds great Aaron
- I'm going to hold off on my nomination for a bit because I haven't seen too many of these movies that I think might be worthy, so I can't be sure if they are, or if they suck. But some that I'd suggest warrant consideration for a nomination would be: 9, Star Trek, Public Enemies and Paranormal Activity.
- Yeah sure. Or you can change your nomination later if you see a better movie. I added primer to the 2004 list a few weeks ago. ~a (user • talk • contribs) 21:48, 15 December 2009 (UTC)
